I say you are cool - my kids get "free days" every year. If their grades and behavior are good, they can pick a day 2-3 times a year where they just get to stay home, or do something with me. Like go to my work Christmas party, sleep, watch tv all day, or something like that. It's a great day to spend one on one time with them.
